Project Description

The elective focussed on designing an application using a complex sensor. Complex sensors allow the application to be aware of the surroundings and communicate with the user.

When designing the application, the five questions from Bellotti play an important role (Bellotti et al., 2002). The questions relate to aspects around how to interact with the application and how to know it is reacting to you. During the elective, we worked on an application involving the Leap motion. The leap motion consists of an infrared camera that is able to detect hands and their gestures. During the design of the final application, the five questions from Bellotti, the Mirrored-perception-cognition-action model and a series of user tests were used.

The final application is a touchless controller for a laboratory setup. With the controller, the protocol can be read and the camera on the microscope can be controlled.
